Does TennIIS accept HL7 2.5.1 files?

The Tennessee Immunization Information System (TennIIS) currently accepts electronic immunization data in HL7 2.5.1 format.

How do I connect Practice Fusion with my registry for Meaningful Use (Medicaid) or MIPS (Medicare)?

All providers must register their intent for Meaningful Use or MIPS online (the same form will be used for both). You will need the following information to complete the online registration request:

  1. Eligible Professionals: your name and title
  2. Facility information: name, address, phone and NPI number (group or individual NPI number)
  3. Point of contact name and current valid email address
  4. Vaccine for Children PIN (Vaccines for Children participants only)
  5. Version of HL7 messaging (2.5.1)
  6. EHR Vendor Name (Practice Fusion)
  7. EHR Vendor Phone (415-346-7700 ext. 1)
  8. EHR Vendor point of contact name and current valid email address:

After you complete your registration, you will receive an email confirmation and a registry representative from TennIIS will contact you within 48 hours with instructions on how to proceed.

1. Register to actively engage with TennIIS

  • For Modified Stage 2 of Meaningful Use, you are required to actively engage with TennIIS to submit immunization data. If you are reporting on the 2017 ACI Transition Measure: Immunization Registry Reporting for MIPS, active engagement is also required. Anyone who wants to actively engage to submit data to TennIIS must complete an HL7 test plan.
  • Contact the TIP Registry Unit (1-800-404-3006 or TennIIS.MU@tn.gov) to obtain the technical specifications document and the data test plan. Once you receive the test plan, please contact our Customer Service team and submit the data test plan to us. We will assist with the completion of the testing on your behalf. Upon completion of testing, the registry will require you to sign a Trading Partner Agreement (TPA).
  • TennIIS accepts immunization data through several transport methods such as Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), Secure File Transport (SFTP), manual upload, and Direct secure email. Completing the process as outlined above will assist you in transporting your data using the Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) option.

2. Sign up for an integration through Practice Fusion in the Immunization Settings

  • Ensure that the following information has been accurately entered into the EHR in the applicable areas: Provider name, Primary facility address, and NPI. Note: For instructions on editing your EHR Settings, click here.
  • Navigate to Settings --> Vaccines and immunizations --> Immunization registry.
  • Under Step 2: Connect, select Connect an EHR facility to your state registry.
  • Select the facility name you are registering.
  • Select Tennessee - Tennessee Immunization Information System (TennIIS) from the Receiving Facility drop-down list.
  • Enter your credentials. Click on the “i” icon for additional information about each credential. If you do not know your credentials, please contact TennIIS directly.
  • Click Register to begin the testing and validation process.

3. Testing and validation process

  • Practice Fusion will start automatically sending test immunization files to TennIIS on your behalf along with the following information from your EHR account: provider name, primary facility address, NPI, and information you entered in the Immunization registry settings page.
  • If information was entered incorrectly on the settings page or if there is any error with the test files, you should be notified by TennIIS with an explanation of the issue.
  • If you need to update the information entered in the Immunization registry settings page, delete the existing electronic transmission registration, correct the information, and resubmit the registration to re-start the testing and validation process with the updated information.

4. Activate your immunization integration in the Immunization Registry settings page

  • Practice Fusion will notify you via email when you can proceed to submit production (real patient) data. You may also be notified by TennIIS directly.
  • Once you have been notified that you can submit production data, navigate to the Immunization registry settings page and activate your integration.

  • Once activated, you will be able to electronically submit immunization files to your registry for each patient.
  • Go to the Immunizations section of a chart and select the Transmit all button. Alternatively, click the Actions button and select Transmit to state registry.
  • Be sure to transmit the immunization file to the state registry for each patient whose immunization record you update.
