How do I change patient communication settings?

Patient communication settings can be found in the Settings tab in the top right corner of the EHR. Under the Patient Engagement section, select the Patient Communications link to proceed to the settings. From these settings, you will be able to control PHR invites, appointment reminders, and patient messages. Administrators can choose if these settings are enabled for providers in their practices.


PHR Invite Tab
As a practice administrator, you can control which users in your practice have the ability to enroll patients in the patient portal via the Manage Patient Portal Access window and which users will permit the auto-invite feature when chart notes are signed. Only an administrator can edit the Manage Patient Access to Patient Fusion (PHR) invite settings, as indicated by the lock icon. However, all users can view the settings in a read-only format. Please contact your administrator if you’d like to enable these settings.

Appointment Reminders Tab
As a practice administrator, you can control whether your entire practice opts in or out of patient appointment reminders. Appointment reminders are sent to a patient’s email address one week and one day before a scheduled appointment. Appointment status emails (eg cancellations, changes, proposals to appointment times, and confirmation of appointments) may be sent even if appointment reminders are turned off. An administrator can enable the setting for the practice by toggling the Enable appointment reminders for your practice button to On. They can then decide which providers in the practice send email appointment reminders for upcoming patient appointments by marking the checkbox next to the user’s name in the list below.

From the Appointment reminders tab, an administrator can also choose to send intake forms with appointment reminders.



Turning appointment reminders on will set all patient preferences to On by default. Reminders can be turned off for specific patients from the patient’s Profile.


Patient Messages Tab
Check the box to let
patients exchange secure, HIPAA compliant electronic messages with providers in your practice via Patient Fusion. Only an administrator can adjust this setting for the entire practice (no provider-level changes can be made).
