The e-Prescribing process includes multiple networks. An e-Prescription sent from Practice Fusion is transmitted through the Surescripts network to the pharmacy. Nearly all large chain pharmacies have a pharmacy hub that first receives the e-prescription and then routes it to the correct store location's system.
We can track the prescription to the point at which it enters the pharmacy's hub and know if it was successfully transmitted through the Surescripts system or not. Some pharmacy hubs instantly send a return message confirming receipt. Some pharmacy hubs do not have this capability. And in some cases, if the transmission pauses, even for a split second, the confirmation message may not be received.
Once it reaches the pharmacy system, a status of "Pending" may appear and remain in the e-Prescriptions history in the patient’s Timeline.
Often the message will change to “Verified” after we receive the confirmation at a later time. But if we do not receive the confirmation, the message may remain as "Pending".
In nearly all cases in which you see the “Pending” message, the e-prescription was successfully received and processed by the pharmacy. It simply indicates that either we never received the confirmation or that the pharmacy system is not capable of sending the confirmation message. It is not an indicator of a prescription transmission failure.
Please contact the pharmacy to confirm receipt. If the pharmacy has not received the script, you will want to send it again.
