    For security and regulatory purposes, the Practice Fusion EHR will auto-lock and require password to be unlocked after a period of idle time. Currently, this timer is set to 15 minutes because certain states require the time to be 15 minutes at minimum. We are investigating ways to improve this security feature, which may include customization in the future.

    Hi Dr. Goldstein--there are more than HIPAA (federal) concerns here. Each state has their own situation as well. And, as your EHR vendor, we are required to implement certain boundaries in the technology (for instance, we can't just allow people to create passwords that are 3 characters long). We are looking into making this auto-lock time setting more customizable for each practice, but there will likely be a minimum amount of time required for each state.

    Hi Dana—can you provide some more detail on the kinds of things you need to store in the Notes field? We’re rolling out Patient Alerts soon, which should give you more space and structure for this sort of thing.

    As of September 2015, customers are able to modify the size of the text when editing sections of the chart note.

    Unfortunately, we do not have any explicit recommendations for handling this. Most practices send documents over via fax for now. While not secure, faxing is HIPAA compliant.

    That's the biggest challenge here, Dr. Godwin. In our exploration of how this might work, launching an appointment from here does save 4 clicks and some typing, though, even though it takes the user out of the context that they're working in. So there is definite value to starting an appointment directly from the patient's chart (either from the Summary or from the Actions menu or both)

    Hi Dr. Reddy,

    Patients do indeed have access to these forms at all times, from Patient Fusion directly. The 7 day and 1 day reminders just provide a simple way to provide them. Since sending of millions of emails gets expensive, we're looking for other smart ways to inform patients of this intake form opportunity. Do you have other ideas for how we can inform patients?

    Hello--the extra Units field is a Surescripts requirement for successfully transmitting the prescription to pharmacies. Unfortunately, it is a required field by the e-prescription network that all EHRs use and is not optional for us to display.
