    Other practices have told us that even though they don’t bill, it is still a necessity for their workflow to tie a diagnosis code to the lab order, as the reason that the order was created in the first place. It sounds like we should consider making the “required” aspect of this a practice-specific setting.

    Can you provide the pertinent regulatory compliance paperwork or website link that you're referring to so we can look at the legal aspects of this? The legal aspect of this is not something we've heard from other customers.

    Hello everyone – great news! You now have the ability to specify gender at birth in the patient Profile as well as gender identity and sexual orientation on the patient Summary page.

    Thank you for your patience as we worked to get this implemented!

    You won't have to worry about that because this field will be something we track and store separately from the current Gender that we have in the EHR demographics now.

    While confusing, and insulting to those who do not identify as the binary male or female, it is a reality that we'll need to work within.

    Thanks for the idea, Dr. Boor. We'll look into whether this is feasible. We store over 300 million chart notes, so that kind of frequency analysis takes a very very long time. We'll still explore how we might be able to accomplish something like what you're requesting.

    Hi Dr. Gilmer--since the New EHR uses the spellchecker natively in your browser, it is not within Practice Fusion's control. You can modify your browser's spellchecker to recognize different spellings or include words that you would expect it to know.

    We are looking into ways to incorporate more medically-oriented spellcheckers, but the browser-based checkers seem to do a relatively good job overall.

    Hi Julia--since you're a one-person practice, I can see how this delegation feature wouldn't help your practice.

    We (like all other EHRs) use Surescripts as a centralized routing service for e-prescribing. We will ask Surescripts if there are plans to allow physicians to communicate with a pharmacist in this manner. At this point, Surescripts does not support this kind of message, but we will make sure they know it is important to you and anyone else who votes or comments here.

    That got us what we needed to know.

    It would help to know which fields you think would be most beneficial.

    Messages can be popped out separately because they benefit from not needing a lot of context tied to them that isn't already a property of the message itself.

    But other fields, like SOAP fields, have a lot of other context surrounding them that would be lost if they're allowed to be undocked.

    From Dr. Tortorella:

    if I choose buprenorphine/naloxone tablets, the entire list of "units" is available, from ampule to wafer. film is also an option, even though the only option needed is tablet. If I choose suboxone films, the only "units" available are "box ,container, each, package, unspecified".

    Film is not an option. I'd like it to be an option.

    Our hands are tied a bit here, as the Meaningful Use requirements do not allow for a write-in option for our physicians looking to get Meaningful Use credit for documenting patient demographics fully. We'll look into other possibilities, though.

    Hi Dr. Akman,

    For a long time, our users were reporting that pre-populating the patient name when the actual match couldn't be assured was confusing, as it made them think the result was already assigned.

    If we get enough feedback that this is even more confusing or causing workflow problems, we'll explore a change.

    Hi Josephine,

    When your practice is upgraded to the New EHR, the Dashboard is the landing page for the entire EHR, so canceling or closing it will no longer be a problem. We’ll be enhancing the Dashboard in the coming months as well, to make it much more usable and valuable as an information hub for your practice.

    Hi everyone: quick reminder that if you're using the New EHR, there is no need to "close" the dashboard. You'll just be navigating away from the dashboard to utilize the other parts of the EHR.
