I would prefer just changing next of kin box to Emergency contact. The concept of next of kin in really pointless because the Durable Power of Attorney for medical care needs to be spelled out in the Advanced Directive. Can the profile tab pull from the advanced directive tab and show the most recent.

Great suggestion. We are also considering other more advanced filtering ability for the Patient Timeline.

That sounds overwhelming. And we are already getting an alert in PF. I think make the alert system within PF better (I keep wanting something more than the white letters in the gray box are the far left. I loved the red numbers of Old EMR, and they were about mid visual field so impossible to miss). I wonder if providers want this during working hours or after hours. During the day when we are working we are seeing messages as they come in. But after hours and on weekends, I suspect it is easy to not sign in and miss a new message. If you were going to implement this would it be possible to do only e-mail for message that occur outside of clinic hours? I suspect that would reduce the number of e-mail messages as well.

Hi everyone – As of 1/19/2017, we have introduced a new schedule setting to all practices that allows administrators to determine if encounters will be auto-generated for appointments marked as cancelled or no-show.

You can read more about schedule settings here: http://knowledgebase.practicefusion.com/knowledgebase/articles/482832

We have also introduced a new Appointment Report that allows practices to review and filter appointments by facility, status, provider, and date, making it easier to track cancellations, no shows, and other scheduling details.

You can read more about the new Appointment Report here:

We change the chart note type to "Letter" so the NS or CX or RS when signed doesn't become a problem for our meaningful use numbers. I chose letter because we often send NS letters to patients. Now that we have timeline, appointments in New EMR the signed NS, CX, RS could be less critical. However, I think they are still needed because it is the only way to see them in the appointment timeline. If we had a unified timeline off all activity, we could stop having signed notes if the NS, CX, RS appts were in that unified timeline (with labs, imaging, documents, messages, reminder tasks, refills erx)

Much better to have more granular controls. There are so many positions that you cannot hope to get each one. That being said "MA" are amazingly common in the office setting while RN "nurses" have become rare. I assume the "nurse" position was really an "MA"

    Hi everyone,

Good news! As of 9/28/17 you can now add a prefix and/or suffix to the patient Profile page.

We will keep this feature request as partially resolved as we have not yet implemented the ability to search for patients by preferred name.

    Angus Matheson MD commented  ·

we are often putting in the name patient goes by in first name, even if it is a nickname, and having trouble matching labs with the legal name the hospital uses. I would love a searchable nickname so we call the patient the right thing, and so we can not worry about putting the legal name as their first name (which is what I try to enforce already). Sometimes patient also have had prior last names or complicated hyphenated names. They also makes lab searching difficult. I do not know an easy way around that - other than an yet another last name category AKA name. In my opinion, ignore the last name problem and focus on the nickname problem.

Hello everyone – great news! You now have the ability to specify gender at birth in the patient Profile as well as gender identity and sexual orientation on the patient Summary page.

Thank you for your patience as we worked to get this implemented!

I worry about this and billing. If we put in anything other than male or female, what happens we we send it to Medicare and insurance companies which require gender and currently only accept Male and Female? How about M, F, TG-M, TG-F (allowing the transgender patient's to choose which one) - for instance we could bill out male for TG-male, if they were sure that their insurance company also had that as their gender. I know that does not describe all TG patients, but it seems the best option I can think of given my understanding that insurance will need a digital, male/female gender. (I apologize if I am wrong about insurance needs.)
